Beauty Beyond: Harmful Effects of Body Shaming!

Updated: Jun 14, 2020

Beauty is much more than your physical appearance but it’s the way you carry yourself. My views on beauty start with how you view yourself. Beauty means feeling comfortable in your own skin and appreciating your imperfections. Beauty means feeling good about yourself, whether it is because of makeup or nice clothes or exercising, it is having confidence in yourself.”

People define beauty based on a person's physical attributes. Every woman or young girl has struggled with their weight or feel body-shamed to some degree. Whether it’s childhood weight, after pregnancy weight, and triggered weight gain, etc. No one ever talks about the mental pressure and constant anxiety that body shaming can cause. Self-love is when you have a positive view of yourself, show confidence in yourself, and know your place in the world.

On this day in time, so many use social media to boost the specific assets on their body to get attention. Social media is an indirect way to communicate with people you may know or don’t know. Honestly, social media has made people supercritical and very vain based on their looks.

  • Have you ever struggled with losing weight?

  • Have you been criticized about your weight gain or weight loss?

  • Has your weight affected your views on beauty?

  • Have you experienced fat/body shaming from family or friends?

If you could answer the questions you’ve experienced fat/body shaming. Some people believe making people feel ashamed of their weight or eating habits may motivate them to get healthier. Instead of motivating people, fat-shaming makes them feel terrible about themselves, causing them to eat more and gain more weight. Encourage them to get healthy!
