Society's perception of beauty has made today’s women question their value. When I mean to question their value, meaning that young women and girls use social media to view and imitate what beauty looks like to them.
Beauty products should be a way to enhance the natural glow that you already have. I noticed that some women and young girls use makeup to cover and hide hidden insecurities that they may have. Girls and women are beautiful and don’t even know it!
Growing up, I remember watching Lil Kim rapping and on the latest fashion shows in Paris or New York. With her fashion and her beauty, she was considered a fashion icon and one of the most daring hip-hop celebrities to wear the best of the best high-end designer clothes. But I realized that although Lil Kim has always had style and beauty somehow she lost her sense of self-worth by living up to unrealistic beauty standards. Her style and beauty made her unique and a trendsetter of her time. Sometimes, I wish she would have seen the beauty we saw before fame.
Oftentimes, young girls and some women feel like they have to change their appearance or look like someone else to fit in. Your appearance shouldn’t be based on anybody else but for you! Your perception of beauty should be what makes you feel sexy and the most beautiful.
Listen, sis, you’re perfect just the way you are! Don’t let no one tell you different! Please don’t get caught up in being like other people's versions of beauty but JUST BE YOU!
